1. How do I listen to the meditations to get maximum benefit from the binaural beats?

To get the maximum benefit from the binaural-beat frequencies embedded in the meditation tracks, you should listen to the tracks with high-quality stereo headphones. This will ensure the different frequencies that create the binaural-beat effect in your brain are transmitted effectively to each ear.

Research shows that it takes at least 15 minutes for the brain to become entrained to the binaural-beat frequency, so you should listen to the Power Sleep track for at least 15 minutes and preferably longer to give the binaural beats a chance to take effect and entrain your brainwaves into an Alpha state, which is when you'll start feeling sleepy and in the right state to fall asleep minutes after your head hits the pillow.
 
2. When is the best time of day to listen to the Guided Letting Go meditation? 

The best times of the day for meditating are in the early morning and early evening. Jonathan recommends you do the meditation in the morning first thing after waking up to take advantage of the Alpha-state you'll be in and the quieter time of day - just make sure you sit upright when doing it and don't be tempted to lie down, as you know what will happen then!
  
To create the time to do it in the morning, just get up an hour earlier than you normally do. Deep meditation is a substitute for sleep, so you shouldn't feel sleep deprived, but if you do, just watch an hour's less TV and go to bed an hour earlier the night before. You'll be trading an hour of what tells you your vision and keeps your perception locked into the world's warped reality for an hour of true vision that will help you to see everything in this world in a different light and ultimately, free your mind from the need to perceive at all. (If you're not sure what all this means, it will become clearer as you do the meditation, and you can always ask Jono to explain it during The Art of Letting Go Webinar).  

Depending on your routine, you could also do the Guided Letting Go Theta meditation in the late afternoon or early evening, which is when our body's bio-rhythms naturally slow down and we often feel tired or sleepy, making this a good time to do a meditation to refresh and re-energise yourself for the evening ahead. But don't finish the meditation less than 4 hours before you're planning to go to sleep because otherwise, you may find that it stops you from falling asleep and actually works against the Power Sleep track, to which you should always listen just before going to bed. 
 
3. How long do the meditations last? 

The Guided Letting Go Theta meditation lasts just over an hour, but this will not seem like an hour because you'll find your perception of time changes when you're doing it. Most people who've done the meditation for the first time think that it's only lasted 20 minutes or half an hour at the most and are amazed when they find out they've been meditating for over an hour, which for many of them is far longer than they've ever meditated for in a single sitting.

The Power Sleep track is just under 40 minutes in length, but you don't have to listen to it until the end - Jono tends to listen to it for only 20 minutes to half an hour while he's doing some reading and reflection before bed. Experiment with it and you'll soon discover what works best for you.

4. What if I'm a total 'newbie' to meditation? Will these meditations still work for me?  


Most people who've never meditated before and have done the Guided Letting Go Theta meditation have been surprised at how easy it was and amazed when they find out they've been meditating for over an hour. Jono will be guiding you through the process every step of the way and you'll have the multi-dimensional mantras embedded in the meditation in the form of breathing, toning, touching and colour visualisation to help you stay focussed on the meditation and not let your mind wander.

The Power Sleep track is really easy to listen to. There will be no one speaking to you during the track, which is white noise with an Alpha-range binaural beat in the background, so it's ideal to listen to while you're reading or doing some reflection on your day. Just connect your headphones into your device, start the track and listen to it for as long as it takes you to start feeling sleepy.

6. Which file format are the meditations in and will they play on any device? 


Both meditations are in an MP3 file format, which is one of the most common audio file formats and will play on  iTunes and all players designed for PCs and phones or tablets running Android. However, should you want to convert the files to another format, there are many sites where you can do this for free - just Google "convert MP3 to your desired file format".

7. What research has been done to show that meditation and binaural beats are actually beneficial for the listener, and are there any possible negative side-effects?
While many studies have been done to verify the physical and psychological benefits of meditation, many of them were not done with the scientific rigour demanded by the academic community. However, there is a large body of persuasive evidence from the studies that have been done on various different kinds of meditative practices indicating that they are effective in reducing stress and stress-related symptoms, including depression and anxiety, and help regular practitioners to improve their concentration and other key cognitive functions such as memory.

Other proven benefits of regular meditation are that it slows down the aging process, increases longevity and leads to a more coherent and healthy sense of self and identity, fostering the development of a sense of responsibility, authenticity, compassion, self-acceptance and character. By comparison with meditation, which has been practised for thousands of years in many different cultures, binaural-beat technology is relatively new, so less research has been done on its effects. It was the catalyst for further research into the effects of binaural beats and it helped establish binaural beats as a recognised self-development tool. In terms of negative side-effects, lengthy exposure to a high-frequency beta binaural beat has been shown to increase anxiety and stress levels, but you wouldn't want to listen to such a high-frequency binaural-beat track unless you were deliberately trying to make yourself more alert and hyped up. Coming out of a deep meditation too quickly can cause some people to get a headache, while others may feel a bit groggy or drowsy. To avoid or overcome these effects, always take a few minutes after a meditation to sit quietly and just observe your surroundings and your thoughts before you get up.

It should go without saying, but we'll say it anyway just in case: never listen to a meditation track while you are driving. There are times when you need to be alert and observant, and this is one of them.
